Mac 4100 receiver for sale3/16/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() This receiver really was over-engineered for its intended use, like most of the best McIntosh pieces. That's nearly $7,000 new in today's dollars (2018), and another $1800 or more for the CR7 remote in today's dollars. This receiver was $2800 when new in the late 80s. I also appreciate the receiver for its use of batteries that recharge to keep preset stations in memory indefinitely. What's more, the preamp in this receiver has great FM reception, great great flexibility, great looks, and even more impressive functionality with the CR7 remote it was designed to incorporate. And it's powerful too for a 100 watt amp (100 watts into 4ohms and 75 watts into 8ohms)-plenty of power for my small listening room (18X20'), even with big XRT speakers. It's muscular yet warm - that typical Mac sound - all the way up to 100 watts. The first pleasant surprise I experienced with the 4200 was how refined it sounds. ![]() I've been enjoying it so much, I'm selling another McIntosh amp instead. A few months ago, I purchased a beautiful McIntosh 4200 receiver with the intent to play with it and then sell.
